In partnership with Skate Southampton as part of John Hansard Gallery’s Community Takeover 2020 programme, we invite you to your contribute towards Safe Spaces Soton.
This new initiative seeks to encourage the reactivation and rehumanisation of seemingly forgotten ‘in-between’ areas in the city, aiming to stir community imagination towards the reclamation of dormant civic spaces.
The platform will present concepts from the local Southampton community that promote the growth of lively, diverse common spaces, environments that allow for cultural activity and interactions to naturally shape community culture and ties.
From urban greenery projects to leisure activities, such as outdoor chess or ping pong tables, fitness furniture or even sculpture, Safe Spaces Soton seeks to open conversations around community empowerment to feel ownership of their local environments and create dynamic, inclusive, safe civic spaces for all to celebrate and enjoy.
