Breakouth Youth Uncharted Territory

Inspired by Kathy Prendergast’s recent exhibition, Stasis Field, where reimagined maps are used to explore identity and place, Uncharted Territory documents the LGBTQIAP+ journeys of young people from Breakout Youth.

Together, they have created their own tools to navigate life and nurture self-discovery.

In their words: ‘As an LGBTQIAP+ young person these are uncertain times. Often it feels like every part of our existence is under question. When it feels like there is no hope, the knowledge that there is a supportive community out there can guide you through. Uncharted Territory documents the exploration of identity and draws on this community.

There isn’t a map to navigate life, so the young people of Breakout Youth have created their own navigation tools.

You have the privilege of experiencing these navigation tools, whilst also gaining insight into the lives of these talented young people through their chosen medium of art. Be prepared to be challenged, be prepared to be inspired, and be prepared to see the world through our unique perspectives. Be prepared for uncharted territory.’

Breakout Youth is an independent charity supporting LGBTQIAP+ young people aged 11–25 across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, offering confidential youth groups and safe spaces for connection, support, and community.
