This October, we are delighted to present the film documentary BREAKING PATTERNS on our Digital Array.
BREAKING PATTERNS is a compelling documentary that showcases the talent and impact of Black creatives in fashion. It brings their often-overlooked contributions to the forefront, exploring how their ingenuity has shaped the UK’s fashion identity and continues to influence the industry today.
Celebrating the rich tapestry of communities, BREAKING PATTERNS explores how grassroots movements have shaped trends and inspired generations of designers. By bringing these stories to light, the documentary aims to motivate and empower aspiring fashion creatives, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds.
The documentary features individuals from across the generations of British fashion who have drawn on their cultural roots to break into the mainstream and make significant contributions. Among them are Charlie Allen, Nicolas Daley, Jason Jules, Cynthia Lawrence John, Angelica Ellis and Art Comes First, whose stories highlight the importance of representation and inclusion within the industry.
Alongside the presentation at John Hansard Gallery, the film will also show in full on pioneering fashion platform SHOWstudio from 30 September.
