We are looking forward to welcoming you back to John Hansard Gallery from 18 May 2021 and making your visit as enjoyable and safe as possible.
Initially only our foyer and shop will be open, with new stock as well as some sale bargains. You will not need to book if you simply want to come and browse the shop, only if you wish to attend our exhibitions.
Morgan Quaintance’s film Missing Time will be viewable on our Digital Array in the Gallery’s foyer until 30 June.
Our first exhibition back in the space will be Lisa Watts’ My Crazy Family Golf opening on 1 June. The show is a participative project by Lisa Watts and her father, Gordon Watts (referred to as ‘Dad’). Together they have created a series of crazy golf holes, each including audio recordings of the family made during Dad’s years of caring for Lisa’s mother. Book tickets here.
All our visitors are asked to read and adhere to our Safety Policy below in advance of their visit:

Extra safety measures (one-way route, social distancing, rule of six)
We are limiting the number of visitors to the gallery, and a one-way route has been introduced to keep you safe. You should maintain social distancing from anyone not in your group during your visit. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. We welcome groups of up to six people.
You will be encouraged to regularly wash your hands and use our additional hand-sanitising stations. Only the family toilet on the ground floor will be open for general visitors’ use, with increased cleaning regime.
We currently only accept card or contactless payments in the Gallery to minimise touch points. Please avoid unnecessary handling of merchandise and ask staff for help.
Accessible toilets are located on ground and first floor. Our lifts are reserved for users with accessibility issues only. We ask everyone else to use the stairs for which there are social distancing measures in place.
NHS Test&Trace (details retained for 21 days from visit)
The government requires that we ask every visitor over the age of 16 to provide their name and contact details or ‘check in’ using the NHS COVID-19 app. If they do not have the app, each individual visitor will be required to fill in an online form once at the Gallery.
If you have any questions about our reopening measures, please email us at [email protected] or call 023 8059 2158.
